Sometimes you get back from work or school and all you wish to do is relax and chill for a bit with a nice relaxing game. If that’s the case you don’t want to be playing or stressing yourself in a multiplayer game or just play anything too serious.
Well, don’t worry because we have it all sorted for you. We have made the list of the best Nintendo Switch games to help you sit back and relax. Have fun!
1. Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
Captain Toad is a fun game, a stress-free game made for the Nintendo Switch, no matter how old you are you’ll most likely have a lot of fun jumping through the variety of terrains while avoiding dangers. The colors used in the game are vibrant and vivid, with really cute characters and enemies that will lighten up your mood no matter how bad of a day you just had.
What makes Captain Toad so amazing is that you can play it at your own speed. You don’t have to rush to finish the game by completing the challenges or acquiring gems. As long as you can attain all the stars required you will be able to progress in the game.
Another aspect of the game is its pleasant background score. Even the intro music is going to calm you down.
The game features a playtime of about 15 hours if you are used to playing these kinds of games, but at the cost of just $40, it’s cheaper than most Switch games on the market. Plus, the game has a good replay value to try and collect all the collectibles.
If you like solving puzzles and love the Mario theme games, Captain Toad is the perfect game for your style.
Gris is a game which is not particularly popular among a lot of players, but it’s a hidden gem made for the Switch which happens to be one of the most pleasurable and relaxing games we’ve played in a long time.
The game follows the story of a girl, Gris which you play and explore the world around you, solving the puzzles and enjoying the environment to progress further in the game. What makes this game different is that there is absolutely no death or even danger in Gris, the puzzles are challenging but not too tough to give you stress, a perfect balance.
The creators of Gris have made this absolutely made it clear that they want you to enjoy this game as art. The game pulls you in using it’s beautiful music, the story and it all comes together in a way that you’ll remember the story in a heartfelt way for a long time.
3. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
If you grew up playing Zelda games throughout your childhood or if it is your first time, Breath of the Wild is going to cheer you up. If someone asked what is the one game every Switch user must play, this is it.
Breath of the Wild is an open-world game, and you can play the game for hours just getting lost and discovering new and interesting places. If anything is visible on the map, you can definitely reach that place in some way or the other. In fact, you can actually climb it and surf down on your shield.
The game also offers you some combat experience, but it isn’t too stressful, and if that bothers you, you can just buy a Sheikah Stealth Armor to make the monsters ignore you. And instead of fighting, you can spend your time doing side quests like solving shrines, crafting potions, weapons, armors, cooking, etc all of which are amazing for chilling and relaxing.
Like all the games we’ve talked about earlier, this game also features amazing music and ambiance and everything is tied together perfectly in the game.
If you are a fan of underwater diving and love the adventures involved, this is a game to immerse yourself in (quite literally). The game is all about exploring the ocean environment and enjoying the views the game has to offer. There is absolutely no fighting, or health bars, or anything remotely stressful.
You are free to explore and ride different animals, including turtles, manta rays, sharks, cute dolphins, or even great blue whales and watch them leap out of the water. Just find a meditation spot for yourself, sit back, relax, and watch the game in a breathtaking first-person view.
The game features phenomenal graphics and relaxing music, and if you have any interest in underwater aquatic life, Abzu is absolutely worth a look.
Wandersong is a side scroller game where you play around as a bard singing songs to defeat monsters. The game lets you control and select various pitches from the voice wheel using the Joy-Con control stick and you can then guide the bard throughout his journey. And the best part is that you don’t need to have a sense of rhythm or know any sort of music theory to be able to appreciate this game.
Wandersong is a game that is absolutely hilarious and it’ll most probably leave you laughing hysterically at some of the absurd situations. The soundtrack along with the story makes this an enjoyable game.
This game is definitely trying out if you wish to lighten your mood and you are a fan of chill games.
6. Stardew Valley
Simply one of the most popular games to be made ever is now available for the Nintendo Switch too.
If you’ve never played this game it can be described as a life farming simulator game. And yet, it’s so much more than just farming. As you take on a new life and make new friends in the town, keeping up with their birthdays and other special events, hunting for treasures in the mines and doing your best to revitalize your town.
If you’ve played Stardew Valley, you can also give Cattails a try, it’s a similar game. This is a game where you simulate a cat hunting for food and exploring the wilderness. You even have the chance of getting married and raising your own kittens. We get that it’s absurd, but also fun and relaxing.
7. Yoshi’s Crafted World
Yoshi’s Crafted World is an adventure game that’s delightful to play and your goal is to simply explore each stage, finding the secrets on your way to overcoming obstacles and enemies. The characters and graphics in the game are insanely cute and you’ll find it hard not smiling at the screen staring at Yoshi.
While this game is kid-friendly, it’s actually perfect for all ages to play. And this game doesn’t take itself seriously and is a tad bit challenging without being stressful. Yoshi’s Crafted World is easily the game of choice to chill with.
All the lists of most relaxing games for the Nintendo Switch are going to be incomplete if you don’t include the ever so popular Minecraft, it’s simply the best game to relax. After all, all you have to do is mine, build, eat, sleep, and repeat!
You can build structures in the game just as you want in the Creative mode or simply explore the unknown in the Survival mode across an infinite number of worlds. Or you can always switch to the Peaceful mode if you are looking for some peace of mind.
Minecraft also comes with Super Mario skins and graphics bundled so you can easily play as Bowser, Mario, Luigi, and use their related items.
But keep in mind that the game on the Nintendo Switch is best only for single-player modes, you can’t connect to any existing account and the online play is really buggy.
9. Golf Story
Golf Story is like Stardew Valley in terms of the graphics and the feels that this game gives, but this has the story elements of an RPG story set in open-world gameplay.
We are not really fans of golf, and therefore we initially overlooked this game for some time, but having played it we can say that the game is a lot more fun for non-golfers. There are a lot of non-golf related activities you can do in the game, such as beach parties, excavating dinosaur bones, and searching for other secrets.
The game rewards you for precision, consistency, and perception. If you have a friend you can also play against them in multiplayer which makes up for some memories.
All in all the game is fun to unwind with before going to bed.
10. Yoku’s Island Express
Yoku’s Island Express gives you a new platform by mixing up pinball mechanics with an open-world adventure game.
And instead of jumping off platforms and ledges, you jump your up and down using paddles, bumpers, and tracks. And sometimes, advancing to the upcoming levels require precision timings which can be a tad little challenging, but the positive atmosphere of the game and the upbeat music keeps the game from getting too serious.
Overall, Yoku’s Island Express doesn’t need too much thought to play, and that makes this game a perfect choice for the most relaxing game on the Switch.
This completes our list of the most relaxing games for the Nintendo Switch for 2020.
We’d have to add a few more games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons to our list, but it was released and we are yet to try it out and give our words to it.
Until then, stop stressing, and get a game from the list above and relieve yourself.
